Aerogarden update

At this point everything you see is ready for harvest.  I took quite a bit of the chives for a recent potato dish, but that's about all I've cut from this lot (and a few slips of basil).  It doesn't look like the spinach is going to produce enough to be useful, but I'll give it a bit longer before I plant something new.  The lettuce sucks up an incredible amount of water, leaving me to refill the garden at least once a week.  Now the only thing I need is a good recipe that calls for thyme!

Aerogarden update

The chives. thyme and basil from garden #1 (on the left) are all ready to be used, in fact I've already to had start trimming back the basil as it seems to grow an inch every day.  In garden #2 the lettuce is well on it's way and I'm actually surprised by the progress of the spinach.  Most of what I've read in other blogs is that spinach just does not do well in an Aerogarden, and I can certainly see why.  Despite the fact that I've got some nice leaves growing, I can't imagine when I'd have enough to harvest...but we'll see!

Aerogarden #2

As I mentioned in my original post, I was still deciding what to plant in the second Aerogarden that Crystal got me for Christmas.  Well, here are the first pictures from that garden; I ended up making my own seed pods, two with romaine lettuce and one with spinach.  The lettuce is looking good, but Crystal keeps joking that I planted grass instead of spinach:

Here's updated pictures from garden #1, which is starting to explode:

Dirt is so 20th Century

Okay, so I totally ripped that line right off of the AeroGrow box, but it's a good one.  Here's a handy tip to see if you're married to the right person: ask for nothing in particular for Christmas and if you still get a gift that is mind-blowingly awesome, you're in good hands.  I had admired the AeroGardens from a far for some time now, but never really mentioned I'd like to have one.  Leave it to Crystal to read my mind and get me not one, but two for Christmas!  My first crop here consists of basil, thyme and chives, and I haven't decided what to plant in garden #2 yet.  These pictures represent a week's worth of growth - so cool!
