Week 1, Class 5 - 48 Percent Lip Sync (Blocking & Vid Ref)

Lip sync is hard.  There's a whole different level to lip sync that goes well beyond just being a good animator and delves into the linguistic land of phonemes, dip-thongs and co-articulation.  If your head is spinning, I know how you feel, mine was too.  And while I think the lip sync to my shot is off to a successful start, I know there's a looooong way to go.  But we'll get there.

Here is what I handed in for video reference, with the audio edited in.

Next week: Refining, something new

All right, Mr. DeMille, I'm ready for my close-up

Here's a couple of close-up screen tests for my current shot.

Week 9 - 48 Percent (Re-Blocking)

Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes!  That's right, even David Bowie would notice quite a difference between last week's assignment and the current rendition.  The main reason for this was Boola's critique, where he explained that while technically speaking the animation was sound, he felt I was losing too much of the performance from the original video reference.  Aside from feeling flattered that Boola felt so strongly about my acting abilities, I knew this was going to be a boatload of extra work, putting me under pressure to re-block the shot and also move it into spline (which the assignment called for).  None the less, here's the updated product, which is looking solid, if not spectacular.  With two weeks to go on this assignment (and only three weeks left in Class 4!) it's time to take my protein pills and put my helmet on.

He played it left hand:

Let's all take a deep breath.......and exhale.  Ahhhhhhh.  Now, don't you all feel relaxed, just like this hand?  Goooooooood.

Next week: Polishing, another hand pose, no more David Bowie references
